  3.      3C90X Fast EtherLink XL/EtherLink XL Bus Master NIC Family
  4.      Installing a NIC for NetWare in Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  5.  
  6. IMPORTANT:  You must have either software from Novell or a version of
  7. Windows for Workgroups with NetWare support to install NetWare support
  8. for Windows for Workgroups.
  9.  
  10. For full NetWare support for Windows for Workgroups, use the NetWare 
  11. installation diskettes provided by Novell.  The installation program 
  12. will prompts you for the necessary files from the 3Com EtherDisk diskette.
  13.  
  14. The following steps describe how to install your 3Com network NIC in a 
  15. NetWare client running Windows for Workgroups 3.11 without the Novell 
  16. installation diskettes.
  17.  
  18. 1.  Ensure that the NIC has been configured properly in the computer by 
  19.     reviewing the configuration and diagnostic tests.
  20.  
  21. 2.  In Windows for Workgroups, locate the Network section (the Network icon).
  22.     Open the Network group and double-click Network Setup.
  23.  
  24. 3.  Click Networks... to reach the Network Setup window.
  25.   
  26.     To install the Microsoft Network with NetWare, proceed as follows: 
  27.     a.  Choose Install Microsoft Windows Network. 
  28.     b.  Choose Other:
  29.     c.  Choose either Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 3.X] or 
  30.         Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 4.0 and above] from the 
  31.         pull down menu.
  32.     d.  When you are finished, click OK.

  34.     To install Novell NetWare only, proceed as follows:
  35.     a.  Choose Install Windows Support for the following network only:
  36.     b.  Choose either Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 3.X] or 
  37.         Novell NetWare[Workstation Shell 4.0 and above] from the 
  38.         pull down menu.  
  39.     c.  When you are finished, click OK.
  40.     
  41. 4.  If you are installing Novell NetWare only skip to step 14.
  42.     If you are installing both NetWare and the Microsoft Network,
  43.     continue with step 5.
  44.     
  45. 5.  To install the network NIC, click Drivers...
  46.  
  47. 6.  In the Network Drivers window, click Add adapter...
  48.  
  49. 7.  From the list of network NICs, select Unlisted or Updated Network
  50.     Adapter and then click OK.
  51.  
  52. 8.  Network setup now requires the vendor-provided network driver diskette.
  53.     Insert the EtherDisk 1 diskette in drive A: and type the following 
  54.     path for the location of the NDIS driver:
  55.     
  56.     A:\WFW311
  57.     
  58.     Click OK.
  59.  
  60. 9.  From the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter screen, select 3Com 
  61.     EtherLink XL/Fast EtherLink XL NIC (3C90X) and click OK.
  62.     
  63.     The Network Setup screen now lists the adapter, along with the 
  64.     default protocol stacks:
  65.     
  66.     3Com EtherLink XL/Fast EtherLink XL NIC (3C90X) (NDIS2/NDIS3)
  67.        IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS
  68.        Microsoft NetBEUI
  69.        
  70. 10. Click setup in the Network Drivers window.  
  71.  
  72. 11. Click the down arrow under Driver Type and select the ODI driver.  
  73.     Then click OK.
  74.  
  75. 12. Click Close in the Network Drivers window to accept these settings.
  76.     
  77. 13. Click OK in the Network Setup window to start the installation.
  78.  
  79. 14. At this point Windows for Workgroups may give you a chance to supply
  80.     or change your user name, workgroup, and computer name.  If your network
  81.     administrator gives you this information, use the information you were 
  82.     given. If not, you can create this information yourself.  When you
  83.     have finished, click OK.

  85.     NOTE: It may be necessary to use your Novell or Windows for Workgroups
  86.           network support diskettes during the installation.  Later versions
  87.           of NetWare include a file that Windows for Workgroups will not
  88.           copy for you.  If you get an error stating that NWGDI.DLL is
  89.           missing, you must copy the file manually into the SYSTEM 
  90.           subdirectory of your WINDOWS directory.
  91.  
  92. 15. The Windows Setup program may ask if you want to replace the Enhanced 
  93.     Mode Protocol Manager or your Novell NetWare files with the version 
  94.     you are installing now. Click Yes to All.
  95.  
  96. 16. If the Windows Setup program asks for the NDIS.386 file,  insert
  97.     Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Disk 7 and click OK.
  98.  
  99. 17. If prompted for the EL90X.386 driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk 1
  100.     diskette in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  101.     NDIS 3 driver:

  103.     A:\WFW311

  105.     Click OK.

  107. 18. If prompted for the EL90X.DOS driver, insert the 3Com EtherDisk 1
  108.     diskette in the A:\ drive. Type the following path to load the 
  109.     NDIS 2 driver:

  111.     A:\NDIS2\DOS
  112.     
  113.     Click OK.
  114.  
  115. 19. The PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.INI files have now been modified. Windows
  116.     for Workgroups saves the old versions with the extension .001, where 
  117.     the number is incremented every time a new PROTOCOL.INI or SYSTEM.INI
  118.     file is generated. Click OK.
  119.  
  120. 20. When prompted, restart the computer.
